Purpose of |
Purpose of the Meeting The libraries of Indiana University (IU), Johns Hopkins University (JHU), and University of California Los Angeles (UCLA) are jointly hosting a workshop to initiate a discussion of descriptive metadata standards in order to facilitate the creation of an Open Archives Initiative (OAI) repository and related service bureau (aka Harvester) for sheet music. The agenda for the one and one-half day meeting will provide background in the OAI standard and developments to date as well as exposure to the Music Library Association's MARC standards and current practice in Dublin Core standards for sheet music. Also, there will be opportunity for brainstorming possible research uses of such collections in order to inform interface design for Harvester services. The meeting will determine next steps for developing a Harvester, which may be further developed at a digital sheet music colloquium being planned by JHU for Fall 2002. Powerpoint presentations from the meeting will be linked from the schedule page as they become available. |
