Adding URLs to Bibliographic Records

  1. Login to NOTIS and get into staff mode.
  2. Find a bibliographic record that already has a URL (ABF5900 will work).
  3. Find the 856 field:

    Example:

     LTBM DONE ABF5900
                                                     NOTIS CATALOGING BCF7

     800/1:1 : |a Bach, Johann Sebastian, |d 1685-1750. |t Cantatas (Hamburg,
    Germany) ; |v vol. 30.
     856/1:7 : |u http://www.music.indiana.edu/cgi-bin/var/access?ABF5900 |2 http

  4. Drag the mouse over it to select it. Go to the Edit menu (in telnet) and click on Copy. The selection will be copied to the Clipboard and will stay there until you copy something else.
  5. Find the bibliographic record to which you need to add a URL by typing LTBM FI <notis number>.
  6. Move the cursor to the very bottom of the bibliographic record (regardless of numbering of fields; NOTIS will sort them later if necessary). Go to the Edit menu and click on Paste.
  7. Move the cursor to the part of the URL that contains the NOTIS number. Type the correct NOTIS number over it. Hit enter until you receive a message that the record has been updated.
  8. Go on to the next record.
